New German GIMP book
Another German GIMP book hit the shelves. The author is Jürgen Osterberg and the book is published by dpunkt.verlag. It contains 546 pages, lots of pics, some of them in color.

The book comes with a CD-ROM containing the recent GIMP-Versions, both for Linux and Win32, all pictures from the book and over 200 textures from the dpunkt's digital design library.

Following the link: http://www.dpunkt.de/buch/3-932588-46-0.html there is some more information, such as a table of contents and two chapters in PDF-format.

Brief Summary Of ALS GIMP BOF
LinuxNews.com interviewed Michael J. Hammel about the GIMP BOF at ALS earlier this month. It's a fluff piece, but hopefully a positive impact on the upcoming 1.2 release.

GIMP 1.1.27
This is a bugfix release. Many people had difficulty with building the Perl parts of 1.1.26; this release shouldn't have that trouble.

Sven On Ora.com
Sven's got a writeup of GIMP 1.2's features on
O'Reilly's website. It won't be news to readers of his full 1.1 guide, but it's a nice gentle intro. It also has a link to the new English version of Gimp kurz & gut.

New Plugin: Resynthesizer
Paul Harrison has written a plugin that does a fascinating range of image twisting and turning. It's so interesting that I broke my voluntary holiday to announce it. Go check out the
resynthesizer home page.

GIMP News Holiday
Well, I've been unofficially on holiday from GIMP news for a while now, but now I'm making it official. I probably won't update GIMP News again until I have some new server hardware, which will probably take about a month or so.

Sorry to all the faithful GIMP News readers. The current system is just too cumbersome even for the sparse amount of news I'm currently posting.

update Thanks to the people who have offered help, but I think what will help most will be when I can upgrade xach.com (and the GIMP News page) to the new website system I've been developing for phlux.net. It's just a matter of time.

Free Textures
Over the weekend, I went out with my camera and
took some slides of various textures around the farm. I placed them in the public domain, you can use them for whatever you like.

If you see a texture you like, I can provide a higher-res (approximately 1650x1150) version of it on request.

GIMP 1.1.23

download it, check it out, and report any bugs you find.

Voluteers Needed For German Linux Fair
Simon Budig asked me to share his plea with the readers of GIMP News:

I am desperately searching for people, who can help me at the Gimp booth at the biggest Linux fair in Europe, the LinuxTag in Stuttgart. I got some sponsors for our booth so I am most likely able to provide flight and room for one person from US or maybe two persons from Europe. The most urgent need is at the weekend (1st and 2nd July 2000). Our booth will have two or three computers, lots of wacom tablets and maybe a projector. Probably a lot of people want to learn something about Gimp :-)

If you are a Gimp Power-User or a Gimp-Developer please mail me, you could help me a lot.
