Hi all,

The German Chaos Computer Club (CCC) is going to organize an open air
event called "Chaos Communication Camp" from the 6. to 8. of august
near Berlin/Germany:

http://www.ccc.de/camp

The CCC guys are known for organizing great events. It seems I have
somehow volunteered to organize the GIMP part of the camp :)

The whole event is subdivided into "villages", one of them called
"Art & Beauty Village". This is obviously the area where the GIMP stuff
will happen. I've mailed the coordinator of this village and he thinks
it's a good idea to have the GIMP there, maybe even in a part of their
central (provided) tent. I'm going to talk to him next week and will
provide you more detailled information then.

The camp will provide areas for tents and campers, food, drink,
music (hopefully electronic), many stuff...
Showers, electrical power and internet for all machines are free.
Have a look at their web site to read about the costs, location, ...

I'm going to show up there earlier and try to reserve some space near
or in the a&b village's main tent. More about this next week. I'll
also bring along a GIMP banner (the "eek" splash) and <eek>I will
bring my machine to the camping site</eek>. My plan is to print
some shirts for our "corporate identity". If someone wants to hold
a talk there (there are special tents for that purpose)
<cough>Karin, Olof?</cough>, I'll try to reserve some time.
Also, if you feel that I forgot something that is important to be
organized centrally, don't hesitate to drop me a note.

It's not going to be a GIMP mega event but rather some kind of hack-in,
meeting people and representing the best image manipulation program
out there ;-)

I'm going to meet the art & beauty village people next wednesday and it
would be nice if I got some replies until then so I can tell them
how many machines, people etc. are to come. But of course you don't
have to decide this until wednesday as anyone can put up her/his
tent in the a&b village anyway. It's just because I'd like to
place the "GIMP hack center" in their central tent (if they have
some space left) and would like to to tell them that I ask for
room for 2 to 3 machines rather than for something unspecified.

Finally, from the official CCC-announcement:
"The camp is for you. This is going to be fun!!"

BTW, there is a total eclipse visible from southern Germany and Austria
two days after the camp (there's a link on the CCC's pages).

BTW2, if you plan to bring a computer there, SWITCH OFF ALL SERVICES
(telnet, ftp, ...), as the creme de la creme of hackers will show up
there. And leave your home directory at home!!

It would be really cool if some of you geeks from weird places came
to join the camp !!!

cu,
