Patrick Rogan's Toolbar Plans

Patrick has made some excellent mock-ups of what he envisions in the GIMP's toolbar. Here is a series of screenshots of these conceptual layouts. The comments in italics are Patrick's.

Patrick also offers a "wooden nickle" to anyone who can correctly identify the background image in these screenshots :).

[This] is just the current layout. The green thing is just the titlebar.
[This] uses the additional buttons in slide-out menus. Slide-out menu root buttons each have a little triangle in them. All slide-out menus are displayed for show. The buttons were arranged to keep gimp-like ordering wherever possible. Other buttons were placed with Photoshop in mind.
[This] is the same, but with New and Open buttons instead of the stumpy menubar.
[This] is a melding with another dream of mine -- for the GIMP to be automatically focus all dialogs and functions on the document window that last held (or currently holds) the window manager's focus. With this addition, the GIMP would behave more like other multi-document applications, and the dependancy on using a separate pop-up menu as the main menubar in each document disappears. Anyone not using a window manager is SOL :). (I know some of these types...).
