These types of remarks usually demonstrate sloppy thought and hasty delivery. This is a classic ad hominem argument. If you are so concerned about "measured debate" as you seem to be, when you are not conducting it yourself, you need to find a reasonably good book on argumentation and look up what ad hominem means if you do not recognize your own as such. -- In a fight against something, the fight has value, victory has none.
