| I'm with her. ACL for Linux runs about as fast on my PC laptop as it
| does on my SPARC Ultra. I'd love to move toward PC-based hardware
| running Unix as the primary equipment for our lab (much more
| cost-effective!), but without Linux or SolarisPC support, we're really
| hesitant to do that. Are there any plans to market Linux and SolarisPC
| versions of ACL and Composer?
I have asked for the same, and have arranged for a client of mine to
purchase the Linux support contract <$4500), at (> instead of a supported
product through the normal license that I really wanted and they won't
sell me. this has been enough of a stop-gap solution to keep my client
happy, but in the long run, we hope to be able to purchase a real
license. unfortunately, it has become clear to us that that won't happen
unless more people express their desire for a Linux port with real money.
although this may sound as if I'm plugging for Franz, Inc, it is for
purely selfish reasons that I urge people to purchase the support
contract to show support for their Linux efforts and give the necessary
hints to the powers that be: I want it, and for me to have it, lots of
people must convince Franz, Inc, that it makes fiduciary sense to give it
to me. the more of you who do that, the more I can be confident that my
client can continue to use cheap, fast commodity hardware for many years
to come.
