Couldn't you run emacs from the boot scripts in batch mode, with some
elisp that starts an inferior lisp which runs cl-http, then talk to
the emacs via gnuserv. At least with xemacs you can do this in such a
way that it just pops up a new frame (X window ie) on whatever screen
you happen to be talking to -- I do this for my mail-reading emacs &c.
I'm not sure if this is a serious suggestion or not, it's certainly
suitably insane...
